Transition to Work and Effective Work Experience Programming for Students with Disabilities
Leaving High School is a time of change for all young people. As students become adults they may want to get a job, go to college, and/or move into their own apartment to become involved in the community they live in. Transition Planning is a process that helps students with a disability identify and learn ways to achieve their goals in preparation for life after High School.
Session Will Cover:
Planning and Discovery; the importance of relationship building, identifying dreams & goals, prior learning, skills, interests of students and collaborating together during the planning process.
Work Preparation; job readiness and shadowing strategies. Role playing as a teaching tool. Using smart technologies and other job preparation resources.
School Arranged Work Experience; focus on community opportunities that will potentially lead to paid employment. The importance of matching work experience with student interest and skills. Including employers, trained job coaches, education assistants in the experience development process.
